Behavioral Economics, Cognitive Bias & Game Theory

Speaker - Zander Memon, PhD candidate and Associate Instructor of Economics at UC Davis

Location - Tandem Coffee & Wine in East Sacramento

We like to think we make rational decisions. But do we? From what we buy and eat to how we save money, our choices are influenced by assumptions, biases, expectations, and mental shortcuts we may not even realize we're making.

Zander Memon, economist and PhD candidate at UC Davis, takes us inside the fascinating world of behavioral economics to explore why we make the choices we do, and why those choices aren't always as logical as we think.

This lecture merges theories in behavioral economics with real-world examples, interactive games, and audience participation. We'll uncover the cognitive biases that shape our everyday decisions, what changes when we make decisions with other people, and how understanding our own behavior can help us make better choices.

You’ll walk out of this lecture with a new perspective on how you make decisions every day, and you may discover that your brain isn't quite as rational as you thought.

Zander Memon is a PhD candidate and associate instructor of economics at UC Davis. His research focuses on how households form and act on beliefs about the macroeconomy, with a particular focus on fiscal policy. His research in behavioral macroeconomics showcases the importance of economic expectations in decision making. He is passionate about communicating economics to a broader audience and empowering students to think critically about the world around them.

Tandem is a coffee shop by day and a bar by night. They have rotating beers on tap as well as a large selections of wines by the glass, as well as non-alcoholic beverages. Their food menu will be available during this event.
